Civil and Hydraulic Engineer with a Ph.D. in Hydrogeology from the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (Universität für Bodenkultur), Vienna, Austria.
25 years of experience in aquifer studies, isotope hydrology, water quality and contamination, water management, and the water-energy-food nexus. He currently works as a research professor and Leader of the Water Science and Technology Research Group at the Tecnológico de Monterrey.
From 2008 to 2017 he served as founding director of the Water Center for Latin America and the Caribbean. He has published over 100 scientific articles and 3 books. He is an associate editor of the scientific journal Science of the Total Environment (Elsevier) and an editorial member of the journal Environmental Pollution (Elsevier). He is a member of the National System of Researchers, Level 2 (CONACyT).
For his work and performance, he has been awarded several prizes and recognitions, including the Dr. Karl-Heinz Schleinzer Award (Austria, 1999), the Eternit-Tiefbau Award (Austria, 1999), and the Rómulo Garza Award in the call for books. published (Mexico, 2019).(Mexico, 2019
