RESEARCH AREAS

This line of research seeks to generate knowledge to increase access to safe, sufficient and affordable water for people to meet the basic needs of drinking water, sanitation and hygiene, to safeguard health and well-being, and to fulfill basic human rights and increase the quality of life.

In this line, the dangers related to water are studied, such as floods, droughts, contamination and associated problems. These hazards have increased in frequency and intensity throughout the world in recent years due to population growth and the effects of climate change.

This line of research seeks to achieve acceptable physical, chemical and biological conditions of water for human consumption and aquatic ecosystems as service providers for environmental and human well-being, and integral development.

This line of research focuses on the conviction that social processes, water systems, sustainability, and technological challenges are intrinsically linked at the basin level and must be considered for comprehensive, effective, efficient, and reliable decision-making.

This line of research seeks to develop water resources in a sustainable and equitable manner and in synergy with natural systems, for which a change of mentality is needed among water professionals. Water resources must be planned in synergy with energy and food resources, since they are intrinsically linked.

In the era of Data Science and Industry 4.0 it is important to promote the acquisition and management of data, its analysis and interpretation, modeling, predictions and optimization to contribute to informed decision making.
